Star Trek Assault Rifle Prop by Euderion Star Trek Assault Rifle Prop by Euderion
This is my version of a rifle matching to the handphaser in the 6th Star Trek Movie "The undiscovered Country".

Normally there is always a hand phaser and an associated phaser rifle with the same looking style. But in the first six Trek Movies we seen only Handphasers in different types. No Rifles.
So I figured I could make one of these for a design, such as an associated phaser rifle should look like. I have made up my mind to the Star Trek 6 Assault Phaser. In my opinion one of the coolest looking phaser we seen in the films.

I made this prop from wood. It was previously an old wall cabinet door i found in trash. Working time was around three days. A fourth day went for the paint on it. Simply made with jigsaw, filler, file and grater. Full lenght is 61 cm.
The complete project cost me 4 Euros for filler and paints.

If you like this, here are some other images of this prop: Assault Rifle Star Trek 6 Style by Euderion Assault Rifle Star Trek 6 Prop by Euderion

Wow, great job- I really like this. I think it's better than many of the phaser rifles we've seen onscreen.

Thanks!
But sorry. America has a strange behavior towards weapons. Shiping weapon replicas to U.S. is a bad idea. Weird people work at the customs authorities. They destroyed once one of my props.

I don't know if I'll ever get an Assault Phaser-style rifle (or even the extensions to the pistol) done someday, but I finally have a Movie Era Phaser Rifle of my own.

Mine, however, is what yours probably would have replaced in the timeline - because my rifle is based on the Atalskes Phaser-III/IV, the pistol from TMP and "Wrath of Khan." It's a TWOK Phaser Rifle. It's made from wood like yours is, but it has foam "buttons."

So, our rifles are totally different, but here's to us and our Monster Maroon-era Phaser rifles. =)

Very good one. Like the Design. Its a logical version of the ST3 Phaser.

On the other hand, ironically, I just managed to come up with the uniform that would have been paired with *your* rifle: an "approximation" of the ST:V Assault/Commando Uniform used on the Nimbus raid. =P

Thanks. =) The propmakers originally developed a sort of "Retro concept rifle" that was clearly based on the TMP/TWOK weapon but had a 1950's "flair" to it that didn't look very Starfleet, so I asked them to redevelop the concept for me and make a prop that could match the real TWOK Phaser and that was the result. I'm glad you like it.

Now the only Movie Era Phaser that doesn't have a rifle counterpart (at least a non-canon one) is the ST:III Phaser pistol: [link]

Let me start off by saying this is completely badass.

Now I do have to point out that there was an assault phaser rifle in Star Trek VI. The faux-Klingon assassin's weapon was actually composed of an assault phaser, with stock and muzzle attachments carried in a briefcase. [link]

But the purpose-built version you have her is far cooler. :)

Yeah, i know this rifle, but its not very popular. The only one we see this thing is in the hand of a Klingon (or a human traitor in the cut-out scenes), so we dont know this is a real starfleet weapon. Basically, it's just a modified hand phaser.

It's exactly the same as the way you take a Walther P-38 pistol and turn it into the UNCLE variant (a.k.a. Generation 1 Megatron) - stock, scope, muzzle attachment/"silencer." I don't consider that a true "rifle" or Type-3. A real Type-3 needs to be a purpose-built Type-3 in my opinion, especially since Starfleet has special rules regarding their issue.

That being said, your Assault Phaser-era Type-3 rifle is amazing. It's extremely well-thought out and carefully designed. It's also very practical as there are few touchpads or complicated controls that could foul up and jam in bad conditions and the weapon is almost completely encased in its outer shell. It looks like something an officer or Starfleet Marine could drag through the muck and still use without a hitch. =)

It's no problem. Again, that thing is beautiful... and it's amazing that you basically built it out of a wooden door. I'd love to do something like that, but I don't have any of that skill and worse, even if I had the skill, I don't have time (I'm a medical student about to go into clinical rotations). I'm afraid all I do have is money I can use to buy commissions. >_<

Yes, that is so common. If you have money, you have no time. If you have time, you have no money...

Indeed... or, no skill either. I had been thinking about asking you if I could commission you to build another one, but then I remembered that you're in Germany and I'm in the USA and I wonder if you'd even be able to ship that thing overseas because it looks much more like a real gun than the average Phaser rifle. *sigh*
