Description
Now that I have reworked some of my old asari ships i can show a Size Comparison for the military ships of the Asari Republic.
The asari possess one of the most powerful navies in the galaxy. The asari navy had 21 dreadnoughts in 2183 CE, including the Destiny Ascension, a formidable warship boasting almost as much firepower as the rest of the asari fleet combined and the flagship of the Citadel Fleet.
Destiny Ascension Super Dreadnought - 1002 m
The Destiny Ascension is an unique Asari Dreadnought and flagship of the Citadel fleet. It is a starship of stunning power and is without a doubt one of the most formidable. Besides the Reapers, there is no other starship that can beat her on 1:1. Like every other Dreadnought she is most effective on large distance of tens of thousands kilometers. Her main gun, a super heavy mass accelerator is able to destroy any other ship of the known races with one shot. However, its an easy target for close combat frigates, destroyers and fighters because of her size and lack of maneuverability. That is why it is usally escorted by several smaller ships. The Ascension is currently commanded by Matriarch Lidanya.
Dreadnought Ahlatania class - 560 m
The Asari built their Ahlatania capital ships to outgun, outfight and outlast any single rival. They are only deployed for the most vital missions. The ship have a similar shape as the Destiny Ascension but scaled down and with a smaller top tower. The Dreadnought is the ultimate arbiter of space warfare. Her hull is specially made for heavy fire like mass accelerator shots from other Dreadnoughts. The shields alone withstand multiple shots from a 800 meter Mass Accelerator Cannon. That means no sane commander would face this Dreadnought with anything less than another dreadnought. The Treaty of Farixen stipulates the amount of dreadnoughts a Navy may own. The Asari had 21 Dreadnoughts in service of which 20 belong to Ahlatania class.
Heavy Cruiser Nefrane class - 740 m
The Nefrane class is a Cruiser / Dreadnought Mix and the heaviest unit that are not restricted under the Treaty of Farixen. Due to their powerful design the primary role of these vessels is not combat but to show the flag. The idea behind the deployment of such vessels is to convince a would be agressor to choose diplomacy over war. The Nefrane type prioritises acceleration and manoeuvrability, with oversize drive cores enabling them to maintain formation with fast-moving cruiser and frigate fleets. The tradeoff for this extreme manoeuvrability is a slight reduction in firepower and armour. But this ship is still capable off taking the fight to the enemy. The ship is named after the lost city of Nefrane the Asari Equivalent of the Earth myth of Atlantis.
Cruiser Cybaen class - 559,5 m
The Cybaen class cruiser is the standard Asari combat unit encountered away from large naval bases. These cruisers contain drive cores the same size as dreadnoughts, making them exceptionally fast, ready to be at any given corner of a cluster is in minimum of time. The Cybaen's unusually robust engines provide enough energy to generate kinetic barriers normally reserved for dreadnoughts and made it capable to land on some lower gravity planets. In major fleet engagements, these cruisers support the dreadnought battle line by screening their flanks against enemies attempting to maneuver for a main gun "bow-shot" from their vulnerable broadsides.
Light Cruiser Vaeeno class - 493 m
The Vaeeno class is a direct response to the threat of smaller pirate ships in the Traverse. Bigger ships like the Cybaen were unable to cope with the raidings of the agile batarians or mercenary starships. So it had a ship, who owned the firepower and resistance ability of a cruiser, but also the speed and agility of a frigate. After the Reaper War Asari sat mostly on the Vaeeno class because the ship could be built quickly without the heavy cost of other ship classes. The Vaeeno is the new backbone of Asari fleet, replacing the older Cybaen class. Her GARDIAN system consists entirely of scaledown Thanix cannons therefore it is now considered as Fighter or Frigate Killer.
Frigate Nofreya class - 365 m
The Nofreya class frigate are not as powerful as their larger counter-parts, but they still play an intergral role in the fleet. Often they found helping take out smaller ships like fighters, frigates or destroyers. Mostly however they generally fill in the gaps in the fleet between cruisers and dreadnoughts and help with Point-Defense on the larger ships as they deal with the main enemy threat. Like most frigates they can land on planets without relying on a landing pad or support structures, making them very versatile for commando drop operations. The Nofreya is more a "recon-frigate" as a "battle-frigate".
Escort Frigate Vak'tyr class - 300 m
The Vak'tyr class represents a link between Destroyers and frigates. It is a heavily armed escort ship with a strong firepower closer to an cruiser and the maneuverabillity of a frigate. In fact, the ship have a very similar design to the Nefrane class Heavy cruiser, just downsized to half of the size. The Asari use the Vak'tyr as escort vessel for unarmed transports, freighters or larger warships. It is clearly a "battle-frigate" made to outgun other ships of her size. She has large arrays of GARDIAN Defense Systems and were upgraded with Thanix Cannons shortly before the Reaper War.
Corvette Oseros class - 190 m
The Asari corvette is a small warship leading fighters and gunships. It is traditionally the smallest class of vessel considered to be a proper warship. In modern terms, a corvette is typically a small frigate, crewed with less than 30. The Asari use the corvette for patrol near outpost and colonies and intercept fast attacking ships. The Oseros class is also made for athmosphere flights so it often used for ground strikes against vehicles or large defense guns. The ship is equiped with a Stealth System to provide covert strike operations.
